Index 2 search by name in Maharashtra
Updated · Mahasuchi
Index 2 in Maharashtra is organised by property, not by person. The practical way to search “by name” is to first find the property number (gut, survey or CTS number) linked to that name, then search Index 2 by property number — which lists every registered document and the names of the parties in each.
Step 1: find the property number from the name
- 1Agricultural land: open the 7/12 extract on Mahabhulekh (bhulekh.mahabhumi.gov.in), choose your district, taluka and village, and use the name search to find the gut / survey number.
- 2Urban land: check the property card or the property tax bill — it shows the CTS or milkat number.
- 3Flats: the agreement, society share certificate or maintenance bill usually has the building and flat number plus the CTS number of the plot.
Step 2: search Index 2 by property number
Select the district, taluka and village, enter the property number and search all years. The report lists every document with the executant and claimant names, so you can confirm the person you were looking for.
Why a pure name search is unreliable
- The same name is spelled many ways in Marathi and English registers.
- Older records often use initials or include the father’s / husband’s name in different orders.
- A person may have bought and sold many properties; the property number pins down the one you need.
